A day in Bellagio, Lake Como
Bellagio is by many considered the pearl of Lake Como. Situated at the end of the peninsula of the up side down letter Y-shaped lake it has an excellent location for views over almost the whole lake. The town itself is pretty nice to look at from the boat too.
Lake Como in general and specifically Bellagio has become a very popular place for Hollywood stars and celebrities to spend their summer. Some of them even have a summer-house here so they can return year after year. Bellagio is also famous for its villas (like Villa Serbelloni or Villa Melzi) with gardens overlooking the lake. Along the sea front there are several restaurants where you can sit down and eat with a very nice view. For day trippers this is the most popular town and many tourists visit this place. Therefore the prices are a bit higher here than the nearby towns.

The village is small with a main street Via Guiseppe Garibaldi with some cafés and exclusive boutiques. There are some shops that sell leather goods, local food and clothes. The center is very cute with the small alleys and colorful houses and flowers. It’s really nice to just walk around and enjoy the atmosphere.

Strolling along the main street you will soon see the church Basilica of San Giacomo between the houses. It is located on the square called Piazza della Chiesa.

After the square you can continue by the street to the end of the peninsula. Here you will reach Punta Spartivento where you have an awesome view over the lake. You will see the beautiful mountains north of Lake Como and the other villages Varenna and Menaggio. 
Another great place for a view is of course the beautiful promenade along the lake that starts just by the ferry. The view over Bellagio is beautiful and you can also see Cadenabbia on the other side of the lake.

Bellagio sure is a very cute little town, but of course with a lot of tourists and high prices. I think it is fun to have seen it, but I don’t really get why it is so much more popular than any other town. At first we wanted to stay in Bellagio as well, but the hotels were way too pricey when we booked. I’m happy we stayed in Menaggio instead actually. But if you have more time here, make your way over to the other side of the town. I have heard there’s a nice bar with sea view (well, of course) where you get some snacks to your drinks and with a more relaxed surrounding. :)
