Best beaches on Skiáthos, Greece

I went to Skiáthos in July 2021 on a charter trip. I was here to relax and have a chill time. There are so many beaches on Skiáthos and I had no chance to visit them all. I didn’t even try to visit as many as I could and it was so nice. I had time to visit three of them though, all very easy to get to from Skiáthos town.

Read more about Skiáthos town.

Megali Ammos

Megali Ammos is the beach that is closest to Skiáthos town. Here are many hotels and it’s a popular beach for tourists. I didn’t think it was the most beautiful beach, but it was okey. There were only a few sunbeds to rent and the water was nice. But it was possible to rent stuff for water activities and it’s very convinient that it’s so close to Skiáthos town.

There were also some taverns on this beach. I didn’t spend much time here, but I managed to eat at the restaurant called Thessaloniki three times. So yeah, it was good! I ate a grilled feta with vegetables dish which was amaaazing.

During my one week on Skiáthos I visited two other beaches as well. It’s quite easy to get around on the island, at least on the southern parts of the island. There’s a bus line that goes from Skiáthos town to the western parts of the island. The rest of the island can be reached by car or by boat.

Koukounaries beach

This beach is said to be one of the best ones on the island. I actually went here on my first full day. I took the bus for about 30 minutes and paid 2,5 euro. The beach was big and beautiful and there were almost no people there. I guess in times before (and after) the pandemic it’s pretty full. After a while more and more people joined me on the beach though, but it was never packed.

I rented a sunbed on the front row for 10 euros (well for two sunbeds and an umbrella). It was so nice to have a beach day, I mostly read and took a dip in the water now and then.

Don’t you think it looks really nice? The water was beautiful and it was long enough for taking a beach stroll when you feel the need to move a little. There are also a couple of taverns along the beach so you can get a lunch or a drink.

Troulos beach

This is where I spent my last day on Skiáthos. Once again I took the bus to get to another beautiful beach. I spent a couple of hours here reading my book and ate at the local tavern. The beach was small and pretty nice. There were a few sunbeds to rent but not that many.  There was a hotel on this beach that looked closed actually. This may be the only place I noticed being closed because of the pandemic. And I think there would have been more sunbeds with the umbrellas if this hotel would have been open. But I can’t say for sure.

If you want to explore more of Skiáthos you can rent a car and drive around the island. You can also take a boat trip around the island. For example the most popular beach of the island can only be reached by boat. I visited that beach (Lalaria beach) on a day trip and I will tell you more about that in my next blog post.
